A few years ago I decided to give homemade gifts for the holidays.   Along with the expected Christmas cookies and homemade candles, I learned how to make cashew brittle from a co-worker’s wife. She made it for us every year and I loved it.  I used her basic recipe and started experimenting with the ingredients until I discovered what you will soon enjoy.

For the first few weeks after the holidays, I started getting THE CALLS. “Where do I get more of that cashew brittle?  I’m totally addicted….I’ll send money and you just make some for me….Why don’t you just put us out of our misery and start a business already so we can get it whenever we want?”

My family and friends had no idea that their overwhelming enthusiasm for my homemade holiday treat had sparked the sweetest idea.  To create Thomasina’s Cashew Brittle.         

I didn’t start out wanting to be a candy maker or a cook.  I love to cook and bake for my family and make treats for my kids, but I’ve wanted to be a singer and actor ever since I was a little girl. 

Just like every other little American girl, I was way too busy watching Luke and Laura on “General Hospital” and playing under the crabapple tree my Granny had us pick to make jelly, to get in the kitchen and watch and learn from her.  I’m so thankful now she taught me so much about putting love and care into food.

I have been a professional jazz singer and actor (AEA) for over 20 years.**  But my sister-in-law Leslie, a mechanical engineer and entrepreneur in her own right, saw my passion to start my own business, so we joined forces and co-own the business together.

With Leslie’s attention to detail and impeccable quality standards we formulated, calculated, experimented and downright played with the absolute best ingredients. Together we have worked tirelessly to create the best sweet-buttery, melt-in-your-mouth cashew brittle. 

Hey! Why not think big even when you start small?
